The native-metrics module is a companion package for the New Relic Node.js agent that provides low-level metrics from the V8 virtual machine and process health that aren't available through JavaScript APIs. It's designed for developers using the New Relic Node.js agent who want enhanced monitoring capabilities, automatically included with the agent since v2 but also available as a standalone install.
