D4 is a lightweight, modular DSL built on top of D3 that lets web developers create a variety of reusable charts (column, line, donut, waterfall, etc.) with minimal D3 knowledge. By exposing a declarative, mix‑in‑style API and delegating styling to CSS, it targets front‑end developers and designers who want fast, customizable visualizations without learning D3’s low‑level API.
