Open and Affordable Quantitative Imaging Platform
PlanktoScope is an open-source, modular platform for high-throughput quantitative imaging of plankton samples, designed to be affordable (under $1000) and portable for field use. It enables researchers, citizen scientists, and educators to study plankton—tiny ocean organisms crucial to global ecosystems—through easy-to-use, WiFi-enabled hardware and software. The project is ideal for monitoring laboratory cultures or natural micro-plankton communities, with full documentation and assembly instructions available online.
